World Bank supports Serbian road development

29 April 2013

Funding of US$100 million (€76 million) has been released by the World Bank to support improvements to over 800km of roads in Serbia.

The new Road Rehabilitation & Safety Project will contribute to the financing of periodic maintenance and rehabilitation works, partial pavement widening, works concerning traffic signal improvement and structure renewal, as well ancillary road connections for up to 40 sections of national roads.

In addition, signage, traffic calming measures and road furniture will be provided for an additional 1,000km of national roads.

The World Bank project is part of a larger effort by international financial institutions, including the European Investment Bank and the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development, to help Serbia implement a National Road Network Rehabilitation Programme to improve the quality and safety on priority national roads.
