Work starts on US$1 billion Legoland in China

Construction work has started on what will be the world’s largest Legoland in the southeast Chinese city of Shenzhen.
Theme park company Merlin Entertainments has announced that the total project cost will be around RMB 7 billion (US$1.08 billion).
At the launch ceremony for the 58 hectare development an earthmoving vehicle carried 20,000 of the iconic plastic bricks.
Siegfried Boerst, the resort’s general manager, said, “The park will also be a smart park, celebrating technological innovation, imagination and creativity in Shenzhen. The Resort will include a combination of indoor and outdoor play areas to account for the climate in Shenzhen.”
The resort is expected to open in 2024.
