Vögele concentrates on SprayJet

At Intermat 2015, paver firm Vögele is planning to concentrate on just one product – its Super 1800-3i SprayJet, which it said featured a large array of innovations.

It said one important feature was that operation of the spray module had been integrated into the ErgoPlus 3 operating concept. The module is designed as a completely self-contained functional unit, and Vögele said this modular design made the new Super 1800-3i SprayJet simple to service and allowed it to be used both as a spray paver and as a conventional asphalt paver.

The paver has a maximum spray width of 6m. As a conventional paver without spray function, it can pave widths of up to 9m.

The insulated emulsion tank now has a capacity of 2,100 litres and the integrated electric heating ensures that the emulsion is reliably maintained at the ideal temperature for spraying.

The Super 1800-3i SprayJet is equipped with five spray bars. The front spray bar has six spray nozzles and is located between the machine’s crawler tracks, right behind the push-rollers. An articulated spray bar installed on each side of the paver comes with seven nozzles on each side, while a short spray bar with two nozzles is provided right behind each crawler track. Vögele said this arrangement of the spray bars allowed full coverage of the existing surface with emulsion, even when the pave width varies.

The SprayJet nozzles do not spray the emulsion continuously, but operate in a pulsed mode. The frequency of the spray pulses is adjusted automatically as a function of the selected rate of spread, pave speed and pave width. As a result, Vögele claims that complete coverage of the existing surface with a uniform film of emulsion is achieved, without any overlaps. Emulsion is applied at an exceedingly low spray pressure of no more than 3 bar. It said that in combination with the high-quality spray nozzles, this allowed the emulsion to be sprayed cleanly and without burdening the environment.

The new spray paver includes all the features of the company’s Dash 3 generation. This includes the Vögele EcoPlus package, which is said to reduce both fuel consumption and noise levels.

Like all Dash 3 generation pavers, the Super 1800-3i SprayJet comes with the Vögele ErgoPlus 3 operating system which the company said helped with the paver’s handling. Important spraying functions have been integrated into the large colour display on the paver operator’s console, which Vögele said could be seen even in poor lighting conditions.
