Trimble and Autodesk sign interoperability agreement

Trimble has entered into an interoperability agreement with Autodesk, which it claimed was to help save customers time and reduce project costs.

Trimble said this deal would benefit architects, engineers and contractors. It also said it would help project owners by allowing them more freedom to “optimise technology workflows”, which it said was needed to help meet the requirement of today’s construction projects.

Trimble said it shared the same goal as Autodesk of meeting the evolving needs of the building and infrastructure industries.

The company added that its collaboration with Autodesk demonstrates the companies’ commitment to support open industry standards such as Industry Foundation Classes (IFC) and Construction Operations Building Information Exchange (COBie).

It also said it could enable current and prospective Autodesk and Trimble customers working on the same projects, to work together seamlessly.

Amar Hanspal, senior vice president, Autodesk, said, “The strength of a company is best measured by its willingness to do what is right for its customers and the industry at large.

“This interoperability agreement, like others we’ve signed, speaks to Autodesk’s commitment to openness.”

Hanspal added that the collaboration with Trimble showed its shared dedication to making the building process more efficient and productive for all involved.
