Skyline in Sweden reaches new heights with 247-metre skyscraper
05 October 2023
Construction of the tallest building in the Nordic countries, Karlatornet, is currently underway in Gothenburg, Sweden. High-rise construction specialists Doka was involved in the project’s construction.

Through an integrated approach that combined formwork knowledge, customised solutions and digital planning tools, Doka says that they were able to help Serneke Group AB, the building contractor, implement the project.
Karlatornet, also known as ‘Karla Tower’, is the centrepiece of a new district called Karlastaden in the Lindholmen port area.
The construction of Karlatornet was said to present a number of challenges, such as the narrow silhouette and exposure to high wind speeds. Doka provided tailor-made solutions, such as the self-climbing forming and working platform for high-rise construction, which ensured a safe working environment while providing space for site equipment.
Doka’s team also developed a customised platform solution using the Doka self-climbing formwork Xclimb 60 to facilitate the installation and stressing of post-tensioning cables outside the belt walls.
3D planning was used for the building’s core, which allowed for quicker identification of potential problems and more efficient problem resolution.
Karlatornet, with its 74 floors primarily for residential purposes, will include 611 apartments, offices, a hotel, and a skybar on the 69th floor. The superstructure reached its peak in July 2023, and completion is expected in 2024.
