The Swedish construction company will deliver a 2.3km section of the three-lane E18 motorway, running between Fornebukrysset and Strand, on the outskirts of the capital city, Oslo.

The E18 is the major connecting road in the south of Norway, running along the southern coast and on into Sweden.

The scope of the Skanska contract will include the construction of two tunnels: the 660m-long Høvik Tunnel and the 440m-long Gjønnes Tunnel.

As well as the motorway build Skanska will also construct adjacent local road systems, along with pedestrian and cycle paths.

The project, which is expected to proceed in line with BREEAM Infrastructure – level Excellent environmental requirements, will form part of the E18 Western Corridor and replace one of Norway’s busiest road sections.

Work is expected to start this summer, with completion set for early 2030.
