Hitachi has announced a new addition to its Zaxis-3 range of excavators - the ZX14-3, filling a gap in the 1 to 2 tonne class.

According to Hitachi the new model has been developed to compete in the general construction sector and strengthens the manufacturer's position in the mini excavator market.

Speaking for Hitachi Construction Machinery (Europe) (HCME), Joep van den Maagdenberg, said, "Hitachi mini excavators deliver a powerful package in terms of versatility and reliability. The ZX14-3 is positioned within a crucial class and has evolved from the existing Zaxis range.

"It has already been tested on a wide range of job sites with extremely positive results. So, we are confident that the enhanced performance of the ZX14-3 will be well received by our dealers and in the market as a whole."

The compact ZX14-3 is easy to operate, can be transported by trailer and is small enough to work in confined spaces, according to Hitachi.

It is fitted with a three-cylinder 10.7 kW Stage IIIA (Tier 3) compliant engine and the machine's performance is enhanced by hydraulics similar to those found in Hitachi's medium Zaxis excavators, the company stated.

The control levers in the new model are responsive, allowing for smooth and precise operation, which in turn leads to increased efficiency and productivity, Hitachi said.

Operator comfort and safety have been enhanced in the new machine with an enlarged window improving all-round visibility and the spacious cab contains a fully adjustable seat with leg room and foot space.

In addition noise and vibrations are kept to a minimum due to an improved tread pattern on the rubber tracks.

Other key features include the neutral engine start system and shut-off lever which prevent accidental movements.

An exterior fuel gauge and easy-access inspection points reduce downtime and allow for convenient servicing and routine maintenance, the company said. The oil cooler and radiator are situated in parallel which allows for easy cleaning of these components.
