Aecom Murphy Kier joint venture wins Thames Water contract

A UK joint venture made up of Aecom, Murphy and Kier has been awarded a £177 million (€212 million) contract to rebuild one of London’s largest sewerage works.

The contract, awarded to AMK JV by Thames Water, involves upgrading the Deephams sewerage treatment works to meet tighter environmental standards.

The project will also increase capacity to allow for future rises in population. It is hoped the works will also improve the water quality of London’s River Lee and reduce odour.

Jo Streeten, AMK project director, said, “Upgrading Deephams presents a number of interesting challenges, not least the need to construct new treatment facilities on a site with limited space, while maintaining the current operation.”

AMK is expected to submit a planning application by next summer. The works will update Deephams to meet new Environment Agency sewage treatment standards that will apply from March 2017.
