Acciona will take a 60% stake in the project, with compatriot contractor Grupo Azvi taking 40%.

The contract, awarded by the rail group Adif Alta Velocidad, will see the Acciona-Azvi joint venture build a high-speed double-track line between Riquelme and Torre Pacheco.

The scope of work will also include the construction of seven viaducts, 12 overpasses, one underpass.

The construction team will expand and modify stations at Balsicas-Mar Menor and Torre-Pacheco, as well as upgrading elements of the existing line.

As part of Spain’s SDG 9 programme, introduced to develop more sustainable infrastructure, the project has generated funding from the European Union through its Next Generation EU initiative.
