Electronic safety systems company GKD Technik has recently changed its name to GKD Technologies and is undergoing a major rebranding exercise that it is unveiling at Bauma.

At the same time, GKD is launching its new SensorZone and SenorSafe ranges.

CEO Nick Ground said the branding change was the start of an expansion of its activities globally with a cleaner, more modern brand and style.

He said that the change of image and branding reflected more accurately the core values of the company.

“We felt we wanted a cleaner, more modern and universally applicable brand and style that reflects the changes we have made within the company, and our aspirations for working around the world,” he said.

GKD’s range of SensorZone proximity-based warning systems for man and machine, and SensorSafe, its range of machine and operator safety warning systems were both designed and developed for the construction industry.

GKD is launching additions to and new versions of various products within the SensorZone and SensorSafe ranges at Bauma.

Ground said, “By using technology to help safeguard the workforce from needless injuries and moving plant from avoidable collisions, our customers are seeing potentially significant reductions in lost workdays, which naturally has a direct influence on productivity”.

The SensorZone system is designed to create safe working zones to alert both the human and mechanical workforce when they are at risk. GKD said both the driver and a zone transgressor were warned at the same time, allowing the driver/operator to switch off, assess the situation and take immediate action to clear the zone and mitigate any risk.

Any events relating to zone penetration are recorded, and the data can be extracted, analysed and used to inform safety procedures and ongoing training.

SensorZone can also be applied to help protect vulnerable assets and manage access to sites as well as other applications.

The company’s SensorSafe systems are said to protect both people and machines in three ways.

The SensorLoad function reduces the risk of excavators and cranes over-lifting and therefore overturning.

Second, there is SensorHeight is a height limit monitoring and warning function to help avoid hitting overhead cables or other obstacles above the machine when working on site.

The third way is with SensorSlew, which helps prevent a load bearing crane or excavator beam from coming into contact with a passing man or machine by calculating, warning and or controlling the left and right slew.
