Safety Shield demonstrates the future of site safety

06 April 2022

At the recent Futureworx event Safety Shield Global staged live demonstrations of the latest innovations in semi-autonomous plant solutions and collision avoidance, and how these innovations work in collaboration with existing site safety procedures and reduce collisions on site.

Safety Shield showed live interactions with the plant through the Safety Shield Vue data portal, and how data analytics and event video capture is changing behaviour on the jobsite associated with people and plant interface.

Manufactured in the UK, Safety Shield is among the most advanced AI (artificial intelligence) collision avoidance system available on the market for mobile plant. It can be retrofitted to any type of plant, for industries including; construction, rail, mining, distribution, demolition and waste.

The AI collision avoidance technology empowers plant operators to avoid and mitigate imminent collisions, protecting pedestrians and helping eliminating collisions associated with people and plant interface (PPI).

The system is made up of strategically placed AI cameras and an in-cab LED display, this alerts the operator both audibly and visually if a collision is imminent with a pedestrian or vulnerable site personnel.

Unlike other detection systems on the market that require wearables, such as RFID tags or sensors, Safety Shield will detect all objects but the system uses multi award-winning AI image recognition technology to recognise and alert to only pedestrians and vulnerable site personnel. Filtering out any other objects to reduce warnings, therefore reducing unnecessary distractions for the plant operator.

As the system does not rely on tags or sensors to be worn, Safety Shield is suitable for all site environments and is extremely beneficial when working in close proximity to members of the general public.

Each AI camera that is installed on a machine has adjustable detection zones or red zones from 1-20 meters and can be easily calibrated in under five minutes.

Safety Shield Global also work with highway and transport companies as well as council boroughs to develop bespoke traffic and smart city solutions with environmental monitoring.
