Skanska has gained an SEK3.7 billion (€388 million) construction contract for a research and development centre for the UK-based AstraZeneca science group.

Designed by Herzog & de Meuron, the new facility in Cambridge, which will also serve as corporate headquarters, will be built on the Cambridge Biomedical Campus.

The scheme will become the company’s largest centre for oncology research, offering facilities for 2,000 employees. Work has now started on the project, which is due to be completed in 2017.

Its development follows Skanska’s latest annual results, which showed year-on-year growth to SEK145.02 billion (€15.05 billion).
