New mini from Kubota

06 January 2009

Kubota has introduced the 1,6 tonne zero tail swing U17-3 mini excavator which replaces the U15-3 model.

The U17-3 sits between the 990 kg U10-3 and the 2 tonne U20-3 in the company's U-series zero tail swing range.

According to Kubota the key feature of the U17-3 is its adjustable track gauge, which can be expanded to a maximum of 1240 mm to further increase stability. When retracted to 990 mm it can pass through narrow doorways and operate in tight work areas. On both sides of the dozer, dozer blade extensions are standard.

The U17-3 is powered by the same Kubota engine used in the 1,5 tonne KX41-3. It generates 15,2 kN of maximum digging force at the bucket and has a maximum reach of 3,9 m at ground level with a maximum digging depth of 2 m.

Inside the cab Kubota's Intelligent Control System displays easy-to-understand diagnostics of current working conditions, together with warning indicators for engine rpm and hour meter, as well as for fuel, temperature and oil levels.

When filling up with fuel the system informs the operator when the tank is nearly full and it alerts him to when routine maintenance is due.

Kubota stated the use of new short-pitched rubber crawlers helps minimise vibration during travel for improved operator comfort.

The U17-3 incorporates the company's unique key-based 'Anti-Theft' security system, which, according to Kubota is the only one of its kind to be fitted as standard by a mini excavator manufacturer.

Maintenance is simplified by a fully double opening bonnet to access engine, air cleaner and water separator via the rear engine cover, with hydraulic control valve access from inside the cabin. Hoses to the dozer and boom cylinders are of a two-piece design to reduce hose replacement time.

The company recently announced that all new machines will carry a full three year warranty as standard.
