Manchester City FC wins planning approval for €350m stadium expansion
28 July 2023

Manchester City Football Club in the UK has won planning approval to build a £300m (€350 million) fan experience and year-round entertainment and leisure destination at its Etihad Stadium.
The proposals approved by Manchester City Council include several connected all-weather facilities integrated into the stadium, centred around an expanded North Stand with one larger, single upper tier above the existing lower tier.
The work will increase the Etihad’s capacity to 60,000.
A covered City Square fan zone, with capacity for 3,000 people and a 400-bed hotel will also be constructed as part of the Club’s development.
Main construction works will start on site in November 2023 which will mean the North Stand itself will be complete and open during the 2025/26 football season.
The hotel, workspace and public realm works, including City Square, would complete by late 2026.
