Hyundai will launch an entire new excavator range at Bauma, with the -9 series covering the 1,6 to 52 tonne operating weight brackets. Pictured is the 14 tonne-class compact radius machine.

Although most manufacturers will be waiting until next year and the Stage IIIB engine emission requirements to renew their ranges, Hyundai will be the exception to the rule. It will use Bauma to unveil its all-new -9 series of mini and full sized tracked & wheeled excavators, with 14 models from 1,6 to 52 tonnes.

A key concept with the new range is operator preference, which is to say the operator will be able to configure each machine to his or her personal needs. This includes selection of power modes, work modes, maintenance checks and diagnostics, as well as well as simpler comforts like cab temperature, adjusting the air-suspension seat and arm rest, or using the built-in radio/CD/MP3 player.

In operation, the machines feature Hyundai's new 'Posi-Nega' hydraulic system, which has the performance of a positive flow system, with the serviceability of a negative system. Positive pressures control the arm hydraulics, while the bucket swing and travel functions are on the negative side of the circuit.

Power comes from Cummins Stage IIIA engines, which work with a computer aided power optimisation (CAPO) system to set priorities and optimise hydraulic flows.
