Flagship rollers from Ammann

Swiss-based Ammann is introducing a completely redeveloped range of lightweight tandem rollers - the ARX range with 13 models in the weight categories 1.5 to 4.5 tonnes, and working widths from 820 to 1,380mm.
The new rollers will replace the AVM-2 model range in the autumn of 2012. Previously, the range went up to 3.5 tonnes.
Ammann said all the new models had design features aimed at operator comfort and economic efficiency, adding that the range was its flagship.
It said a new hydraulic concept coupled with the latest Yanmar diesel engine technology was responsible for a significant increase in efficiency. It allows the diesel engine to run at a lower speed, effectively reducing consumption and noise emissions. It claims minimum consumption combined with top compaction output
The operator station has vibration insulation, and claims a simple and clearly laid out operating panel. There is a multi-functional drive lever, and the joystick is now electronic, with no cables involved. The new design allows the operator a better view of the drum edges and the kerb. Ammann added that a maintenance-free articulated joint reduced service costs, and part of the aim of the new design was to reduce the amount of material used in its construction.
At Intermat, Ammann was also demonstrating its latest Compaction Control System. Ace Pro has an optional GPS application to display compaction progress in real time and can provide online documentation. Different colours on a screen indicate where compaction is needed and helps avoid over compaction.
Ammann said the machine was able to make the decisions, rather than the operator, adding that by using what it called "intelligent compaction", the machine could be up to 40% more efficient.
Ammann also showed the prototype of the new UniBatch asphalt mixing plant. Mario Carlotto, technical director of Ammann Italy, said that the group had been producing three different mixing plants, using different philosophies, at factories in Switzerland, Germany and Italy. Now a single, global unit is being made which draws on the experience and expertise of manufacturing the different models in the past.
The modular structure of the UniBatch is said to make it very flexible, and easily extendable. It is compatible with all Ammann's recycling technology. The modules are all standardised container size and are suitable for transportation on standard vehicles.
Other changes include a side-door to the storage area rather than the top access that was previously the case.
Mr Carlotto said that it was designed to accept a lot of options, and that there was space on the plant to add new elements in the future - whatever they might be.
