Equipment innovations shortlisted for ICEF awards

By Chris Sleight14 October 2013

A dozen innovative construction machines and components have been shortlisted for awards at this year’s International Construction Economic Forum (ICEF). The quality and quantity of entries from the industry were such that two categories were established – one for components and on-board systems, and one for complete machines.

In the Construction Equipment Design Innovation category for components, there are three entries from Caterpillar paving, relating to its road building equipment – its fumes management system for asphalt pavers, the Mobil Trac undercarriage for pavers and the machine drive power control system for compactors. Also shortlisted in this category is JCB’s Ecomax diesel engine, Liebherr’s P-Boom for crawler cranes, Volvo Construction Equipment’s on-board weighing system for ADTS and Wirtgen’s Auto Pilot machine control system.

Shortlisted in the ICEF Construction Equipment Innovation category is Alsina’s Alispercha safety harness for working at height, a range of tunnel construction equipment from Atlas Copco, Caterpillar’s 336E H hybrid excavator, Manitowoc’s Grove GMK6400 mobile crane and Wacker Neuson’s EB100 electric hand-held breaker.

The winners in both categories will be announced at a gala dinner on Thursday 21 November during ICEF. This event will also see the winner of the prestigious International Construction Project of the Year award announced, from a shortlist of five entries.

ICEF will take place at the Hotel Okura in Amsterdam, the Netherlands. The programme is designed to appeal to a broad range of executives and senior managers throughout the construction industry from disciplines such as contracting, equipment manufacture, materials production, equipment rental, finance, project management and consultancy.

The evening of 21 November will also see a gala dinner and the award of prizes in five categories for outstanding performance in the construction industry. The most sought-after is expected to be the International Construction Project of the Year award, which will recognise a scheme worth US$ 100 million or more, of international significance.
