Doosan's DA40, along with the DA30, is the first of the company's new Stage IIIB/Interim Tier 4 ADTs.

Doosan has launched the first two articulated dump trucks (ADTs) in its new DA range - the 276 kW, 30 tonne capacity DA30 and 368 kW, 40 tonne capacity DA40. Doosan acquired the ADT range when it bought specialist manufacturer Moxy in 2008, however it is marketing its latest trucks under just the Doosan brand, rather than the previous Doosan-Moxy marque.

Commenting on the decision, Doosan Infracore Construction Equipment CEO Tony Helsham said the launches marked the start of a new era in doosan's articulated haulers. "Integrating the ADTs completely into the Doosan family wasn't an easy decision. We want to be a global company with a global brand," he said.

Both new models feature Stage IIIB/Interim Tier 4 Scania engines, equipped with selective catalytic reduction technology to meet the latest emissions legislation. Mr Helsham said the use of Scania engines was significant because the company manufactures both Stage II and Stage IIIB engines from the same block, removing the need for two tier manufacturing when producing machines for different markets.

Other features of the machines include ZF transmissions, load sensing hydraulics, independent front suspension and rear tandem bogie with 40° total movement to ensure continuous contact with ground.

50 tonner planned

Doosan is also considering manufacturing 50 tonne capacity ADT, and is currently researching market demand. Mr Helsham said he had no doubt that in the next few years a viable 50 tonne machine would be brought to the market.

Speaking about current demand he said, "We see strong market conditions for ADTs in Russia, eastern Europe and North America."

Also new from Doosan is the first of its Stage IIIB/Interim Tier 4 LC-3 excavators in the shape of the 32 tonne DX300LC-3 crawler. This machine will go into full production at the end of this year and introduction of the range - 15 models in total - will be spread over the next two years.

Doosan has also unveiled the DL450, a 25 tonne Stage IIIB/Interim Tier 4 wheeled loader. It is the first of five new wheeled loader launches planned by the company.
