Construction blueprint for ‘best practice’

A global initiative has been launched with the aim of compiling best practice for the building and construction industry in topics such as sustainability, the skills shortage, and mental health.

Launched by the Australian-based Master Builders Victoria (MBV) and RMIT university in Melbourne, the project will be looking at innovation opportunities in the building and construction sector such as modular buildings, digital technology and sustainability as well as the issue of supply chains and a lack of materials.

The project will also examine building reform agendas, such as regulatory oversight, compliance, and standards, and how to enable skilled migration to best help the industry tackle its skills shortage.

“If we want to lead a future-ready industry that builds a better world, we cannot do this with a parochial focus. It is vital to have a global perspective,” said CEO of Master Builders Victoria, Rebecca Casson.

“This research project and study tour will provide first-hand insights into how key overseas counterparts in the building and construction industry are solving some of the current critical issues affecting Australia, such as supply chain constraints and skills and labour shortages.”

Having undertaken the worldwide investigation, the results will be captured in a document due for publication in early 2023.
