CE Barometer for January 2023

By Catrin Jones02 March 2023

The CE Barometer survey for January was undertaken during the first three weeks of February.

Construction professionals from across Europe took part in this month’s CE Barometer survey.

The overall climate figure for this month’s barometer has risen from 3.9% to 17.7% - a significant rise for this month’s survey.

This may demonstrate that the cautious business outlook last year has begun to disappear as many report feeling optimistic for the year ahead.

Breaking this down, we look first at business levels in December, compared with January and find that the majority of respondents (43.3%) report that things are unchanged.

December saw a minimal disparity between businesses that reported an uplift in business levels compared to those in a worse situation. The January results are slightly more optimistic as 36.7% reported better business whilst 20% recorded that it was worse than the previous month.

Comparing today’s business levels with those a year ago, things are slowly increasing. Business is recorded to be better by 26.7% of respondents – a steady increase since the drop from 37.9% in November’s results.

Fortunately, looking ahead 12 months, the results are the highest we have seen since January 2022, with 56.7% of respondents anticipating better levels of business.
