Budimex Polish road scheme

18 March 2015

A joint venture between Budimex and Ferrovial Agroman has been appointed for a €270 million contract to build a section of the S7 expressway in Poland.

The dual-carriageway project is for a sub-section of the route between Milomlyn and Olsztynek in the north of the country.

It forms part of the overall S7, which is planned to connect Gdansk in the north, with central and southern areas of Poland.

Budimex said it had been awarded the contract by the Polish General Directorate of National Roads & Motorways (GDDKiA), following a regional court ruling this month in Olsztyn against another bid for the project.

The company said the court’s decision had upheld a verdict of the National Appeal Chamber regarding the price that had been offered for the S7 scheme by a rival consortium consisting of Salini Polska, Salini Impregilo and Todini Costruzioni.

The new section of the S7 expressway includes a 9.7km section of dual carriageway between Ostroda and Gorka, and an 8.7km stretch of Ostroda ring road.

There will be additional works including a 343m three-span bridge over Lake Pauzenski, and a further 561m nine-span bridge elevated slip road over the River Drweca.

The project is scheduled to begin in December and is expected to take 20 months to complete. It follows Budimex’s appointment last October for a €68 million section of the S7 expressway.
