A major section of the S7 Expressway in Poland is to be completed by Budimex, adding to several projects it is involved with in the country.

The firm’s parent company Ferrovial Agroman is also involved in the €68 million scheme, which includes 20km of motorway near the city of Jędrzejów and the border with Małopolska.

It will consist of dual carriageway and four junctions, with further construction of viaducts, bridges, and pedestrian over- and underpasses.

The work is scheduled to take just over two years and form part of the S7 which measures a total of 720km connecting the port of Gdańsk in the north with the town of Rabka-Zdrój in the south.

Budimex’s work on the route follows other projects it is involved with in Poland, including the A4 motorway and a segment of Expressway S5 between the towns of Wrocław and Korzeńsko.

Meanwhile, in central Poland, the European Investment Bank (EIB) is lending €490 million to Bank Gospodarstwa Krajowego to build sections of three motorways – the S8, S12 and S17.

The loan will enable the development of a 22km section of the S8 adjacent to the Warsaw ring road from Radziejowice and Marki, designed to relieve road congestion around the Polish capital.

Construction of around 108km of road for the S12 and S17 from Warsaw through Kurow to Pulawy has also been confirmed with assistance from EIB financing.

Dariusz Kacprzyk, BGK president, said, “EIB loans are a significant source of funding for Polish motorways - next to bond issues and EU funds. So far, BGK has, together with the EIB, managed to provide financial resources for the construction of 808km of highways and 932km of expressways across Poland.”
