Yanmar’s electric response

09 April 2015

A Yanmar mini excavator has been equipped with an electric power unit to help restoration work on the Old Town Hall in Bielefeld, Germany.

Local dealer Lopez-Infantes Baumaschinen converted the Yanmar ViO10 zero tail swing excavator within three weeks of receiving the order from restoration expert Piechottkabau.

The work, which took place in the town hall’s basement, could only be done using machines without exhaust emission motors, which is a requirement in Bielefeld to protect the health of employees.

Lopez managing director Manuel Lopez-Infantes said: “Construction machines with an electric power unit are increasingly used indoors. Manufacturers and dealers have to react to the strict emission guidelines and adapt their machines to meet the requirements.

“Yanmar machines comply with the requirements perfectly and the excavators are easily convertible to electric power with no loss of performance.”

The conversion itself took place by adding the electric power unit with the help of a special holder. It can be removed at any time.

Vika Piechottka, managing director of Piechottkabau, added: “Even with an electric power unit, Yanmar’s ViO10 is a real power pack and perfectly suited to working in enclosed spaces.

“Thanks to the quick conversion by Lopez, we were able to start the restoration on schedule.“
