Saipem for €1.6 billion rail project

Rete Ferroviaria Italiana and the Cepav due consortium – of which Italian contractor Saipem currently holds a 59% stake – have signed a €1.64 billion Italian railway contract.

It is for the first part of the high-speed, high-capacity Brescia-Verona subsection, which is part of the €2.16 billion Brescia-Verona section. Saipem’s share is worth about €970 million.

The project will include the laying of 48km of railway line, including a 2.2.km connection with the Verona freight yard and a connection with the Verona-Brennero subsection.

The line crosses the regions of Lombardy and Veneto, including the provinces of Brescia, Mantua and Verona.

Within the framework of the Milan–Verona line, of which this project is a part, Saipem – through the Cepav due consortium – has previously been involved in the laying of the 39km Treviglio–Brescia line and a further 11.7km of connections with conventional lines.
