Decarbonization technologies highlighted at DP Summit

18 July 2022

Diesel Progress Summit Sessions on new combustion engine systems, powertrains and alternative technolgies for decarbonization will be among the highlights of the upcoming Diesel Progress Summit.

A range of new engine, powertrain and alternative technologies aimed at decarbonization, will be among the sessions at the 2022 Diesel Progress Summit.

Now in its fourth year, the Diesel Progress Summit is a unique one-day conference and awards program for the engine and powertrain technology industry. The event will be held Sept. 27 at the Loews Chicago O’Hare hotel in Rosemont, Ill.

The morning and afternoon sessions will each begin with a keynote address delivered by key industry figures. The morning keynote will be delivered by Karl Weiss, Caterpillar vice president and chief technology officer with responsibility for the company’s Integrated Components and Solutions Division. Weiss will provide perspectives on near- and long-term power technology options, including combustion engines, hydrogen, hybrids and electrification, as well as other machine systems and technologies.

In the afternoon, Vincenzo Perrone, president of Kohler Engines and one of the most highly regarded executives in the engine industry, will discuss the current outlook for engines in light of the current global drive toward decarbonization options such as battery electric technology and hydrogen fuel cells, along with future prospects for engines using low- or zero-carbon fuels.

Each keynote address will be followed by presentations covering new and interesting technologies that aim to play a role in decarbonization. Confirmed sessions include:

Jonathon White Jonathon White

Fuel agnostic combustion engines: Jonathon White, vice president of Engine Business Engineering at Cummins Inc., will detail the company’s new range of engines designed to operate on a range of low- and zero-carbon fuels.

Dr. Ingo Wintruff Dr. Ingo Wintruff

Progress in hydrogen engines and fuel injection: Dr. Ingo Wintruff, managing director of and business unit leader for Liebherr Combustion Engines, will present an overview of the company’s hydrogen engine development, while Stefanie Gerhardt, managing director of the company’s fuel injection division, will provide updates on the advanced fuel system technology required for H2 engines.

Stefanie Gerhardt Stephanie Gerhardt

New engine decarbonization technology: Dr. Julie Blumreiter, chief technology officer and co-founder of ClearFlame Engine Technologies, will detail the company’s innovative combustion system technology that enables a range of low- and zero-carbon fuels to be used in heavy-duty compression ignition engines.

Julie Blumreiter Julie Blumreiter

New concepts in mobile electrohydraulics: Michael Terzo, chief executive officer and founder of California-based Terzo Power Systems, will detail his innovative technology designed for electrification of mobile hydraulics.

Mike Terzo Mike Terzo

Next-generation transmission technology: Preston Moore, Solution Planner and Product Manager for electrified drivetrain and propulsion batteries at John Deere Power Systems, will provide an overview of Deere’s new Electric Variable Transmission (EVT) technology, which incorporates electric motor generators in place of the usual hydrostatic motors, resulting in improved transmission performance, reliability and increased efficiency.
