Caterpillar releases rental-friendly compactors

22 March 2021

Caterpillar has widened its 2- to 3-tonne  compactor offering with three new tandem and combination compactors designed for the rental sector.

According to Cat; “Designed for rental, the efficient Cat GC series compactors deliver low total cost of ownership, simplified maintenance and long-term durability.”

Cat GC series compactors deliver low total cost of ownership, simplified maintenance and durability, making them ideal for rental.

The new line includes weight-based name changes: the new Cat CB2.5 GC replaces the CB2.5; the new CB2.7 GC replaces the CB2.7, and the new CC2.7 GC replaces the CC2.6.

The new machines can be used in soil and asphalt applications such as parking lots, driveways, urban streets, landscaping and small construction sites.

Powered by a Cat C1.7T engine rated at 18.4-kW, the CB2.5 GC, CB2.7 GC and CC2.7 GC models meet EU Stage V emission standards without an aftertreatment system.

They also feature upgraded hydraulics and power management software resulting in high performance with a smaller engine, and a new auto idle shutdown to conserve fuel.

Other features include reengineered operator controls including rocker switches for intuitive operation and auto vibration control which halts vibration when in neutral, preventing uneven marking of the asphalt mat.

The machines feature compaction widths from 1,000 mm to 1,300 mm and large 720 mm drum diameters for a smooth mat finish. Thicker, heavier 14 mm drum shells deliver added durability and greater compacting force, while a 50 mm drum offset makes compaction easier when rolling next to curbs. A narrow frame design also provides improved visibility to the job surface and drum edge.

Meanwhile features such as a water tank gauge for water monitoring from the operator’s station prevent the tank from running dry, while  Cat ET (electronic technician) diagnostic software enables pre-emptive maintenance,
