Cat launches M320 wheeled excavator

Highlights of manufacturer’s latest machine include more swing torque and stability

Cat’s new M320 wheeled excavator

Cat has launched its latest wheeled excavator with the promise of enhanced performance, beefing it up with up to 9% more swing torque.

The M320, with a maximum weight of 21,200kg, also benefits from an extended wheelbase for enhanced stability. Cat says this improvement – along with viscous mounts to reduce vibration – also gives operators a smoother ride, especially when travelling between jobsites at speeds of up to 35km/h.

Designed with applications including utility work, trenching and waste handling in mind, the excavator has been upgraded to maximise uptime, reduce the time required for servicing and also extend service intervals.

Cat says up to 5% cost savings in maintenance parts are possible, due to the M320’s new hydraulic oil filters, with 3,000-hour replacement intervals, 50% longer than those of its predecessor.

The Cat C4.4 engine powering the M320 meets EU Stage V and US EPA Tier 4 Final emissions standards and the machine is being simultaneously launched in Europe, North America, Australia, New Zealand and South Korea.

Along with increased productivity, the excavator promises a number of features to increase efficiency, including one-touch low idle with automatic engine speed control, auto engine idle shutdown and on-demand electric cooling fans – additions combining to conserve diesel.

The M320 is also capable of running up to B20 biodiesel.

Cat says comfort and productivity are improved with the M320, with two larger cabs available, all controls positioned in front of the operator, within easy reach and the ability to store personal machine settings.

The excavator features a 240mm touchscreen monitor, along with rearview and right-side cameras, large cab windows and small cab pillars for increased visibility. Additional cameras are optional, potentially giving 360-degree visibility.

The M320 has a maximum digging depth of 6030mm, with a maximum reach as ground level of 9290mm and a maximum loading height of 6960mm.
