UK construction and infrastructure giant Balfour Beatty has been named as the sole contractor to both the SCAPE Civil Engineering framework for England, Wales and Northern Ireland, and the SCAPE Scotland Civil Engineering framework.

The frameworks, which are worth up to £3.25 billion (€3.6 billion) and £750 million (€839 million) respectively, will last for a period of four years with an extension option of two years.

They will enable local authorities, government agencies and other public sector bodies to procure construction services for a projects across a range of sectors - including highways, defence and marine.

Leo Quinn, Balfour Beatty Group Chief Executive, said, “Our unique end-to-end Group capabilities position us perfectly to deliver the wide variety of public sector projects that are expected to come to market in the coming years.”

The first projects under the framework are expected to be awarded from early 2023. According to Balfour Beatty, it will use early contractor engagement to drive project efficiencies and help “transform local communities”.

In 2015 Balfour Beatty was appointed to the original SCAPE National Civil Engineering and Infrastructure framework. Since then it has “delivered or is delivering over 285 projects for 96 public sector customers”, with an estimated value in excess of £3 billion (€3.35 billion).

“With a long-standing history of successful delivery through the SCAPE Group frameworks, we now look forward to continuing on this positive trajectory; working with our customers to drive forward innovative, sustainable projects across the length and breadth of the UK,” said Quinn.
