€185 million Finnish tunnel contract awarded

09 July 2012

A consortium of companies consisting of Finnish contractors Lemminkäinen, A-Insinöörit Suunnittelu and Saanio & Riekkola have won a contract to develop a new tunnel in the city of Tampere, southern Finland.

The Finnish Transport Agency awarded the €185 million contract for the first stage of the VT12 Tampere tunnel project.

The project, which is planned to ease congestion on the existing Rantaväylä road in Tampere, is divided into development and implementation phases.

During the current development phase, which will last around a year, an implementation plan and target costs and other goals will be drawn up for the project's execution. The implementation phase - the construction of the tunnel - is scheduled to begin in the autumn 2013 and will be based on a separate contract.
